Iraq wants to benefit from 'Runaki' project

In the Kurdistan Region as a whole, about four million citizens benefit from the 24-hour electricity project, which is expanding daily.

Fares Mirkhan said that a delegation of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity has visited Erbil, met with the Ministry of Electricity of the Kurdistan Region and want to take advantage of the 24-hour electricity project "Runaki"; "Because the project has had a resonance not only in Iraq and the region, but around the world.

The director General of electricity production said that after the announcement of 24-hour electricity, the level of electricity consumption has decreased by 30%, which is a sign of increased awareness of citizens.


Electricity Production has increased

The Director General of Electricity Production said that in the ninth cabinet, electricity generation in the Kurdistan Region has increased by 1890 MW. According to him, the energy sources for this increase included gas, crude oil, water, solar energy, and for the first time, the use of gas wasted in oil refineries, on which a 160 MW plant in Garmian will operate.

He added that another project is underway, which is the use of garbage to generate electricity, which is being worked on by an UAE company and is scheduled to be implemented in less than a year.

Regarding electricity networks, Fares Mirkhan said electricity transmission projects are currently under implementation, such as the transmission of a 132 KV substation near Erbil airport and the 132 KV substation project in Bahrka.

He stressed that in the current cabinet, great attention has been paid to solar energy and 40 megawatts of electricity will be produced through solar energy, especially that the Kurdistan Region has about 300 days of sunshine a year and can be used well.
