Job Summary

The Technician is responsible for performing transformer inspections, assembling metering systems, conducting installations, and maintaining transformers as part of the Runaki Project. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a team. The Technician may also be assigned to additional projects and tasks as needed, ensuring flexibility and adaptability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Connection Identification

• Identify and record the type of each non-smart and smart connection, including manufacturer, model number, and relevant technical specifications (e.g., link fuses, PG cables, master switches).

• Utilize GPS or other geolocation tools to accurately record the latitude and longitude of each meter for planning the replacement phase.

• Evaluate the operational status of each meter, checking for proper functionality, signs of wear and tear, and immediate maintenance needs.

• Perform visual inspections to identify any physical damage or installation issues that might affect meter operation or replacement.

• Take clear photographs of each meter and its surroundings to provide visual documentation of its condition and installation context.

• Identify the transformer that feeds each customer meter.

• Recommend appropriate work order types based on the survey findings.

2. Direct Installation or Refurbishment

• Perform direct installation of smart meters during surveys when feasible, including:

o Standalone Replacement

o Smart Meter Replacement

o Gateway Installation or Replacement

o Fixing Smart Meter Connections

o Transformer Refurbishment

3. Data Compilation

• Implement data capturing tools for field operations and management tools for reporting and planning purposes.

• Enter all collected data into the app, ensuring accuracy. 

• Create a geospatial map that plots the locations of all identified meters for planning and logistical purposes during the replacement phase.

• Prepare detailed reports summarizing survey findings, including types and conditions of meters, geolocation data, and any notable observations or recommendations.

4. Transformer Inspection and Refurbishment

• Conduct thorough inspections of transformers, including checking link fuses, MCCBs, and other critical components.

• Identify electrical equipment to be replaced, such as link fuses and master switches.

• Perform necessary security procedures (e.g., earthing of lines) before manipulating transformers, with support from the BIM management team.

• Install or repair electrical equipment based on specifications provided by BIM.

• Ensure correct operation of transformers post-refurbishment, including switch on/off functions.

• Report all operations performed and assign meter identifications where necessary.

• Install CT stones and perform cable replacements as required.

• Replace electrical boards, MCCBs, and link fuses, ensuring all installations adhere to safety and quality standards.

• Document all inspections and replacement work on both the application and paperwork to maintain accurate records.

• Identify and report any faults or issues with transformers during inspections.

5. Assembly

• Pre-assembly Testing: Verify the compatibility and functionality of all supplied components before installation to ensure seamless integration.

• Configuration of Smart Meters: Set up single-phase and triple-phase smart meters, including firmware updates, calibration, and configuration for effective communication with gateways and central management systems.

• Assembly of Meter Enclosures: Integrate smart meters and CTs into enclosures, securely mounting them and ensuring wiring is correctly connected.

• Gateway Configuration: Set up gateways for proper data transmission between smart meters and the central management system, including network configuration and secure data communication.

6. Installation

• General Installation: Deploy assembled components at designated locations and map meters to the correct customers. Ensure all required support accessories are included during installation.

• Installation of New Enclosures: Collect enclosures from BIM’s warehouses, install them at specified sites, connect meters, secure wiring, conduct tests, and map meters to customers.

• Meter Installation in Existing Enclosures: Install new smart meters in existing enclosures, reconnect wiring, conduct tests, and map meters to customers.

• Standalone Replacement: Replace old mechanical or smart meters with new smart meters, reconnect wiring, conduct tests, and map meters to customers.

• Gateway Installation or Replacement: Install or replace gateways, ensuring proper connection and communication with smart meters.

• Fixing Smart Meter Connections: Inspect and repair faulty smart meter connections, ensuring proper functionality and data mapping.

• Transformer Maintenance and Meter Installation: Replace electrical equipment in transformers, install new components, secure enclosures, conduct tests, and map meters to customers.

• Meter Mapping: Revisit installations to ensure meters are mapped to the correct customers using provided data or customer registration.

7. Additional Responsibilities

• Accurately document all work performed, noting any issues encountered and reporting them in the Styra.

• Ensure all installations and replacements meet the company’s quality standards and safety regulations.

• Continuous Improvement: Participate in ongoing training and contribute to process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Technician may be asked to train other teams while conducting on ground activities. 

• Be prepared to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed for other projects, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to support the broader team.
